Churches

The residents of Kea, cherish their religion as the most residents in Cycladic Islands, therefore they have built many and easy on the eye churches. The ones that differ from the others are Panagia Kastriani, the tutelary of Kea, Episkopi a Byzantine church, built on the realms of an ancient temple of a Greek Goddess, saint Symeon built on Aphrodite’s temple, the church of the Apostles since the 12th century with the well preserved murals and others.

Kea is the ideal place for rituals and as a matter of fact many weddings take place here, because of the beautiful churches and the distance from Athens and the airport of Eleftherios Venizelos.

Kea is also the island that retains the tradition. Festivals and celebrations, with traditional instruments, bagpipes and violins, take place during the year. The wine and hooch of Kea flow and the fiesta begins at name days and Saint’s days!
